Graham Couch has a good article in LSJ today remembering the game that launched the Izzo Era. Fans under 35 have no appreciation for what a mediocre program MSU was going into that game. Izzo had two .500 seasons and an uninspiring start that included a THIRD STRAIGHT loss to UofD.

I missed whole first half and when I turned it on I was absolutely astonished by MSU’s double digit lead. Purdue was three time defending Big Ten champs. Probably the biggest upset I ever remember from basketball team. Turned out MSU actually had a really good team that year and no one knew.
