Women's Day 1 Recap​

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's women's golf team shot an 18-over par 302 and is in 11th place among 14 teams at the Big Ten Championship, being played at Fox Chapel Golf Club in Pittsburgh.

The three-day, 54-hole event, being played on the par-71, 6,045-yard course, continues on Saturday and concludes on Sunday, April 23.

First Round Results

Illinois shot a 2-over par 286 and leads the 14-team field by six shots, with Ohio State second at 8-over par 292. Maryland is in third place (10-over par 294) while Northwestern and Wisconsin are tied for fourth place at 11-over par 295.

The Spartans sit just seven shots out of the top-five teams with an 18-over par 302.

Sophomore Shannon Kennedy is tied for fourth place individually at 1-under par 70, leading MSU. She had two birdies and 15 pars during her round.

Sophomores Brooke Biermann and Katie Lu are tied for 43rd place, with each posting rounds of 6-over par 77.

Junior Nina Rissi is tied for 57th place with a 7-over par 78, while freshman Paula Balanzategui is in 76th place at 10-over par 81 and junior Leila Raines is tied for 78th place at 12-over par 83.

Men's Preview​

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's men's golf team plays its final tournament of the regular season this weekend at the Fighting Illini Spring Collegiate, being played on the Atkins Golf Course at the University of Illinois.

The two-day, 54-hole tournament beings on Saturday, April 22 with 36 holes and concludes on Sunday, April 23 on the par-71, 7,538-yard course.

Atkins Golf Club is an 18-hole public golf course located on approximately 190 acres. Formerly Stone Creek, the course has served as the home course for Illinois for many year.

LAST TIME OUT
Michigan State shot a 3-over par 287 in the final round and finished in fifth place among 17 teams at the Redhawk Invitational in University Park, Wash. at the Chambers Bay Golf Course on April 4. The Spartans finished the two-day, 54-hole tournament with a score of 14-over 866.

Sophomore Ashton McCulloch fired a 4-under par 67 in the final round, the rest round of the tournament for a Spartan, and finished in a tie for ninth place at 1-over par 214 (72-75-67).Senior Bradley Smithson tied for 20th place at 5-over par 218 (71-725-75) and fifth year Troy Taylor II had the second-best team round of the day, shooting an even-par 71 and tied for 23rd place at 6-over par 219.

LUBAHN'S THOUGHTS
"We're looking to close out the regular season on a good note in a field with some very challenging opponents and I think our guys are ready to get out there and compete. We have had some good moments this year, but we're excited to get out there and show that we're ready for the postseason."
