Game Day Experience - Scoreboards

I have a lot of comments on the game day experience. Been going to games since 1961. Have sat through bad games, incredible games, rain, heat, and snow. However, maybe because I am more of a crusty old man, not enjoying it as much. Could go on about incessent DJ noise, too many late games, etc., but will keep it to one topic here.

WHY DO THEY NOT SHOW SCORES ON THE WRAPAROUND ANYMORE. DID FIRST GAME, BUT NOW ONLY A HANDFUL OF SCORES WITH LANSING fLYAROUND. Caps intended. Flashing advertisements that I do not pay attention to. Fan cams, etc. etc.

Any insight would be helpful. Already sent note to AD.

OFF TOPIC: Your first favorite Spartan athlete

Figured that maybe some of us need a little diversion to help walk us off the ledge so I thought I would change up the narrative a little. Don't know if the term heroes is actually what I mean but it will do.
Football...Dean Look...never saw him play but I remember listening to Spartan games on the radio as a kid and for what ever reason I idolized Look. I believe he placed in the Heisman vote and I know he had a long and distinguished career as an NFL ref. HM...George Saimes, Dewey Lincoln, Sherman Lewis, and of course, Bubba! Also loved Duffy and especially his Sunday night TV show. When I got to college it was Brad Van Pelt and of course watching Eric the flea Allen was priceless. If you don't know about him you should. Watch some of his film.
Basketball...Pete Gent...rarely saw him play because MSU was rarely on TV back then but for some reason I really liked him. HM would be Mike Robinson when I was in college. To this day I have never, ever, seen anyone, pro or college have a sweeter looking shot.
Baseball...Larry Ike...I was in college and the kid could really pitch. A sly and tricky pitcher who also played in the great Grand rapids league with either the Sullivans or Steelcase (can't remember which). Not sure why he couldn't cut it in pro baseball, probably velocity or maybe an injury. The baseball team in the early 70s also had a hitter whose name escapes me but was, I think, the Big 10 player of the year.
Track...Herb Washington...worlds fastest human in short sprints who set numerous world records that would be standing today except for the fact that they were hand-timed. Also was a DR for the world champion Oakland A's. Close second was Ken Popejoy. Ran a few sub 4 minute miles, beat Olympic Champ Dave Wottle, and for a period of a couple of years as good of a middle distance runner as anyone in America. For the ladies it was Judi Brown, Olympic Champ!
Hockey...didn't follow it until I got to college and I can't remember any players but I do remember the colorful Amo Bessone (sp)
Wrestling...Loved the Milkovic (sp) brothers.
Lacrosse, yes lacrosse. Great sport to watch and I went to multiple games in the early 70s. Had a guy who was a floor mate at Akers who was an All American. For the life of me I can't remember his name but it was something like Val Washintgon I think. Maybe one of you knows. Great guy as well.
Women's hoops...didn't really follow them until the 90s and there wasn't one player who was a hero but sure enjoy, even today watching them play. Lest you think I don't follow women's sports you would be wrong. Coached HS girl's hoops for more than 30 years and also women's track and love watching and supporting women's sports. Great to see how far they have come.
Didn't count anyone lately because I mainly wanted to share my first heros from back in the day. I am sure I am missing someone as there are actually far too many to name. Great memories.

B1G Show

I was glad to see Gary D counter Klatt’s thoughts on McCarthy going into the PSU game. Klatt was over the top, as usual, when talking about a UM player. “McCarthy gets better each game”, and on an on. While DiNardo agreed he’s a good player, does some things well, etc., he quickly pointed out some things Klatt skipped over. The next time Klatt gives an objective POV, on a UM player, it will be the first.

Going back to MSU recharges my batteries

I love going back to campus and EL when life gets tough, and I need to have a recharge. Today I look forward to seeing a place where I had many great memories. Not many of them were on the football field in the early 90s, but I always support the team. It's not about the team but the school. For me, I love a win and a great season but even more significant is that MSU is a great place I cherish.

So I believe we will win today, but if we don't, I still am 100% Spartan and love everything about MSU. Happy Homecoming!!

Well thought out and reasoned opinion on the state of MSU football..

This is not my opinion…it’s from someone I respect and has had level-headed ‘takes’ (considering the ‘good’ and ‘bad’ of MSU football) in the past.

What's weird is that people are ignoring the 11-2 season last year because they have it ingrained that MSU will always be SOS, so they look for any evidence that things will be bad.

Dantonio was no more proven than Tucker. He had a .500 record at Cincy (18-17, 11-11 in conference). Tucker only had 1 year with an atrocious CO roster, then he was dealt the absolute worst hand you could have been dealt as a new HC with Dantonio’s retirement and then Covid.

If this was a normal transition, where Tuck took over in Dec 2019, had a hand in the 2020 class and was bombing year 3, I'd be concerned.

It was absolutely none of those things.

We all agreed that talent was dwindling fast under Dantonio. It was. We just saw 55 kids leave in 3 years and only 5 ended up at p5 schools, none of which were elite or even good. We have low grade P5 starters left from those classes, plus what Tuck could mine from the portal.

You cannot say last year was just lucky with Walker - the team had 3 other draft picks and was way more coherent.

What we said this offseason is that the depth sucked, so we would need to be healthy. Guess what, we have 8-10 guys in the playing group, including 5 defensive starters (Bogle, Slade, Mangham, Henderson, Snow), who are out, including our best DT, LB and S.

Not only are our best physical players on D out, but they are also our smartest guys. Slade can make line calls and X gets the back 7 set. They're both out.

You cannot accept that depth is poor, and then when that depth proves to be poor, complain about the depth being poor.

On offense, same issue. We don't have quality depth. Barker is a good receiver who is running the wrong routes. Hunt runs the right routes but is not a great athlete. Carr is allergic to blocking. We have 2 transfer RBs who are getting play calls wrong (think Broussard on the first 3rd down carry vs Washington). Thorne and Reed are both playing hurt and we don't have high 4* backing up any of these guys.

4/5 of the roster is made up of bad recruiting or transfers. The transfers are probably better players, but it is hard to learn new systems in 1 offseason and even harder when you don't join the team until the fall.

There are 15 4* on the roster and 7 are true FR. Next year, we should have 17 4* who are true FR or sophs. I think you HAVE to allow at least the '22 class to hit their 3rd year before panicking.

Finally, we do need to move on from Hazelton and I am confident in getting a good DC. This season sucks to watch, but this is a long term investment. You don't pull your money out of the market at rhe first dip, otherwise you lock in your losses.
