HOCKEY very interesting wings day

After preaching patience over and over recently, yzerman’s actions today said enough of that imo. Brings in 5 guys.

I think if the goal is short term win more much more games he achieved that no question.
My question now is our young core good enough? These moves took us out of the high to mid part of next years highly regarded draft. We are probably now looking at a pick around 14th. You can land a guy like Larkin there but it’s certainly harder than 6th or 8th. I thought we needed 1 more high end building block.

this approach can work but kasper and Edviddson and/or someone else must pop or we land a major piece in free agency coming up next year or soon there after. Pastarnak and huberdeau may come on market next summer.

if the goal is playoffs we got closer to that , if it’s cup contending in 3-4 years the way we get there just changed at the minimum. I think now we will need to land a big piece via free agency that’s not currently here. I was hoping to avoid that by getting a top end kid in 2023 via the draft

HOCKEY Okay, heres the 10 new ones

I see we have 5 freshmen, 4 grads and a junior coming in. Along with the other 16 returnees we have:

Freshmen: 5
Sophomores: 3
Juniors: 9
Seniors: 3
Grads: 6

Of course it depends on how they mesh and play as a team, but does anyone have any clue how good our team could be this fall? We have 18 upperclassmen and if we have a couple of hot shot freshmen can we make the playoffs this coming year? If the coaching is good I don't see why we can't - I say with my green colored glasses on.

Top 2024 LB Sammy Brown updates busy recruitment

Hey everyone! Got an update here on 2024 linebacker Sammy Brown - if he had to trim his list to 10 now, Michigan State would be on the list. He's hoping to visit East Lansing this summer.

HOCKEY Stanley Cup Playoffs

While some of the games throughout the first round were blow outs... Six of the series went 7 games - and pretty much all the game 7s were great with two going into OT for the first time on the same day since 1997.

I'm at the point where I think I want to see a Canadian team win it (knew Toronto would go full Toronto though). Pretty much leaves us with the winner of the Battle of Alberta now.

HOCKEY Wonder if this UM news has any connection to Mel P's status

Not too often they lose a local kid whos also playing in the US program to the OHL.

MEN'S BASKETBALL Returning Production: MSU versus Michigan

I continue to find it confusing why so many people have Michigan in their "way-too-early" Top 25 lists. To me, they are far closer to the NIT than the Top 25 with this roster. They better get a lot of help from the new comers right away, or they could struggle big time. If Dickenson didn't come back... they would be in serious trouble.

HOCKEY 2022 GLI Headed to Van Andel Arena

Looks like UM is not part of the upcoming GLI here in Grand Rapids over the holidays. Wonder why they are not part? Less chance to lose?

HOCKEY Second Assistant Coach Coming Soon

Mike Towns, Associate Head Coach at Clarkson, will be the second assistant hire for Adam Nightingale rounding out the staff. Towns was an assistant coach at Clarkson for the past three season prior to being promoted recently during the offseason. Prior to Clarkson, Towns worked with Eric Lang as the Associate Head Coach at American International for two seasons and was an assistant for the three seasons before that. Towns also four seasons at Adrian College being named assistant captain his first two seasons and captain during his final two seasons.

I would expect an announcement sometime this week. Working through the details as we speak.

HOCKEY ‘02 Swedish D Viktor Hurtig commits to MSU

6-foot-6, 190-pound Swedish defenseman Viktor Hurtig committed to MSU earlier today. Hurtig was selected in the sixth round of the 2021 NHL Draft (#164) by the NJ Devils.

Hurtig played this season in the Swedish J20 Nationell for Vaxlo Lakers J20 and Mora IK J20. The defenseman finished with 17 points in 47 games (6G, 11A).
