FOOTBALL Dr. G&W's Week Four Preview (Bad Betting Advice): One of These Nights

I think that most of you likely know my schtick by now. MSU is playing the Eagles on Saturday Night. What do you think the theme was going to be?

This one was fun to put together. As I explained, I think MSU is playing with house money. They are already ahead of schedule. A 3-1 record to start the season would still be a great start to the season, and MSU will have that even in the worst-case scenario. If MSU wins? Oh boy, watch out!

I also think that the situation in Ann Arbor is worth watching. If USC comes in and beats Michigan by double-digits (which is certainly possible) the Wolverines would be 2-2 and in a possible tailspin. I seriously think that just a bowl game could be difficult. If Michigan wins, then they could possible salvage their season. We will see.

Anyway, as always, enjoy a little bad betting advice

OFF TOPIC: Family of Blackfeet Chief, face of NFL's Redskins for 48 years, wants his image back in the NFL

The family of the Blackfeet chief who served as the face of the Washington Redskins for 48 years want his image back on the fields of the NFL, relatives told Fox News Digital.

The descendants of John Two Guns White Calf also want his incredible life story retold, too, to a new generation of Americans who seek unity and value multiculturalism.

"The fans want him back and we want him back," Thomas White Calf, a great nephew of the celebrated early-20th-century native, said this week by phone, hours after the family met with Sen. Steve Daines, R-Montana.

Two Guns White Calf’s proud portrait adorned Redskins helmets, T-shirts, playing fields and marketing materials from 1972 until 2020.

The celebrated Blackfeet chief and his life story were canceled even as polls showed that 90% of Native Americans supported the team name and White Calf portrait.

"It’s a point of pride and represents the rich Native American history that helped make our nation great, and it should be enthusiastically celebrated across our culture."

FOOTBALL BC versus MSU betting line opinion

From "The Athletic"

Best bets for college football Week 4

Boston College -6.5 (-110) vs. Michigan State

Bill O’Brien has turned Boston College around pretty quickly to start the season and I think the Eagles are a good bet against a banged-up Michigan State team. I like the overall direction of Michigan State for the future, but with injuries mounting, I’m not sure there is quite enough talent to keep this one close on the road.

SPARTANS MAKING AN IMPACT

• This season Michigan State volleyball has partnered with Team IMPACT, which matches collegiate sports teams with children facing serious illness or disability to create a long-term, life-changing experience for everyone involved.

• MSU is matched with Taytum, a nine-year-old from Mason, Mich. with down syndrome.

• Taytum will be around the Spartans all season long, attending games, practices and team events, making a significant impact on the program.

PLAYER NOT A PIECE

• Since 2023, MSU volleyball is partnered with renowned mindset and peak performance coach Seth Makowsky, adding another wrinkle to the program's mental training regimen.

• Makowsky uses chess as a vehicle to help top performers throughout the world get better at what they do, with his client list including NFL quarterbacks, MVP baseball players, Olympians, Fortune 500 CEO's and NCAA champions.

• Makowsky's training is geared towards transforming how athletes think and make decisions in real time, helping the team make quicker decisions, implement game plan and in-game adjustments faster and communicate in match under pressure.

FOOTBALL Michigan State vs. Maryland Film Room: Discussion

This was a lot more fun than the last one of these to do!! Happy to answer questions below:

RECRUITING 2026 TE Evan Jacobson on MSU Offer: 'I like what they are building there'

Michigan State offered class of 2026 high-three-star tight end Evan Jacobson on Monday.

Jacobson, out of Waukee High School, currently ranks as the No. 4 prospect in the state of Iowa and the No. 23 tight end in the 2026 cycle.

It was Michigan State tight ends coach/recruiting coordinator Brian Wozniak who extended the offer to Jacobson.

The offer is intriguing for Jacobson, as he is aware of the way the tight end position is utilized in Michigan State's offense under Wozniak, head coach Jonathan Smith and offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Brian Lindgren.

Jacobson also likes the direction of the program under Smith,

"I was super excited to get offered by Michigan State," Jacobson told Spartans Illustrated. "I really like what they are building there and I like the way they use the tight end."

FOOTBALL Dr. G&W's Week Three Recap (Against All Odds): Fun House

It is always an interesting process for me to come up with the theme for each piece that I write. As I note in the open, I was inspired this week by Charles Brantley's 100-yard pick six. After watching that play in the press box, I turned to my man @Brendanmoore101 and said, "That was fun." Later during the post game press conference, Coach Smith described the play is almost exactly the same terms. Sometime on Sunday morning, it hit me. Yes! Spartan football IS fun again.

It is also fun for me to run these numbers each week. I find that the cold, unbiased numbers can often tell us things that we either don't yet realize or don't realize at all. One really interesting part of this week's analysis is what the numbers are saying out the Wolverines.

It is not pretty for our friends in Maize and Blue.

I predict that they are not going to be happy with my analysis, as it shows that MSU (for now) is likely to win more games than Michigan and is more likely to simply quality for a bowl game. My projected point spread for the game in Ann Arbor is down to just 5.5 points. Now this analysis may turn out to be nonsense in 3-4 weeks. Afterall, my computer told me that Purdue was going to beat Notre Dame and Oregon State would upset Oregon (oops). But the fact is that my algorithm also nailed the opening point spread for the MSU/BC game and the Michigan/USC game to within a point tell me that the experts in Vegas has Michigan and MSU evaluated very similarly to where I have them. Those folks tend to know what they are doing.

Anyway, please enjoy this week's edition of Against All Odds. We decided to make this one free this week, so please feel free to share this one with some of your friend if they are the type to enjoy this kind of a mathematical deep dive into sports.

FOOTBALL The top 10 Michigan State plays from the early part of the 2024 season

Michigan State has already had a great start to the season, filled by some great plays. Here are the top 10 plays from the early part of the 2024 season.

More here:

OTHER SCHOOLS: NY TIMES: Sherrone Moore's new contract Stipulation: He cannot be fired for known NCAA violations (But if they find new allegations he can be fired)

Moore’s five-year contract, released Monday by the university, states that a violation of NCAA rules that occurred prior to the effective date of the deal would not be grounds for termination for cause as long as the university had “actual knowledge of the facts or alleged facts that are the basis for the violation prior to the execution of this agreement by all parties.”

The contract states Moore could be subject to disciplinary action, including suspension without pay, for violations of NCAA rules. The contract also says he could be fired for cause if the university discovers additional violations that were not disclosed prior to the signing of the deal.
