A QB sliding within 3 yards of an oncoming defender is now the most dangerous play in football

There were a couple of dicey plays in a row where it looked like the Virginia QB got hit in the head making this move.

When did the axiom come through that sliding is the safe thing to do? I understand it when the defenders are several yards away, but not when you just get over the first down line in front of two defenders, and then you slide under them when they are preparing to hit you low. Not only are head injuries possible, you can get your legs caught under you, like what happened to Hoyer in his first year with the Browns.

In these cases, just get tackled. You are going to get hit anyways. It's just a tackle; the same thing that happens every other play.
