My heat pump (2.5 ton) is acting up for the second time in two years. It's a 2008 Rheem, SEER 13. Should be OK at 8 years old, but last year it leaked refrigerant from a bad solder/tube (can't tell) and this year the reversing valve goes out. Will cost me another 1200 in coolant plus parts and labor.

Am I better off getting a unit that is going to be (a) more efficient and (c) not going to break down exactly when it's needed?

If a new unit is your opinion, what do you recommend? I've got a couple Trane dealers in town, which I hear is a better unit than Rheem.

Thanks for any insights!!
