Some of you may be getting sick of coronavirus stuff, especially on a sports platform such as this. Life has certainly changed, especially with there being no sports, I can't help but reach out and try to do my part and shout from every rooftop. If this is out of line for this place I apologize.
We in the medical community need help. Yes, we need help with supplies, ventilators, beds and even one by one we are getting sick and out of circulation, but the message is still not getting out. I see it on the news and looking through all the posts here. I’m seeing it even on a chat with 200+ physicians confused about what advice to give people about isolating themselves who have traveled or know someone who is sick or have even come in contact with someone known to have contracted the coronavirus. I’ve personally had tons of my patients come down with what appears to be Covid-19 syndrome, many more than what you see on the news. Unfortunately, I cannot even test them, but don't get me started on that. We are in an acceleration phase of the spread in MI. Testing isn't even relevant right now. We need to live life different and it seems the younger we are, the less likely we are to heed the warning. Our leaders at all levels have struggled with messaging. How do we get people to respect this and to isolate themselves? The best I could come up with to is to think ‘live as if you think you have the virus!’ That may not be far off as many are asymptomatic and current predictions are 60-70% may get infected before it fizzles out. Short of that I fear it won’t be long until we will be doing what California just did. Many will get sick and too many will die but it can be less. If we all think and act different we can make a difference for those at higher risk. This is here, this is real. We have to try. Please be safe but more than that be smart and responsible. Think different. Look beyond mixed and fumbled messaging of our leadership. What would you do and how would you live your life different if you weren’t just worried but thought you actually had the coronavirus?
