I don't post much, quite frankly I don't have the time, but I do like to read things on this site. I think Comp and his staff do a great job with the info they provide. Reading some of the posts below, 'elephant in the room' and 'our fans blow' made me start to think.
I have been coming to Spartan Stadium since I was 9 years old, starting in 1967. I've seen some 'ups' and lots of 'downs'. I've only missed a few games due to either playing HS football games or coaching them. I missed going to the Rose Bowl in 1987, due to the birth of my son (an MSU grad, BTW). I recall standing in the Rose Bowl a few years ago at the end telling my wife, "I'm in football heaven!" I am truly enjoying what I see in MSU football. Many don't know how good we have it at this time!
I get having discussions, I get having disagreements. I DON'T get bashing our own fans, players and coaches. I will say this as a long-time high school football coach--this staff and the players they bring in are special. I've been around the MSU program through many coaches; been to practices, talked with many assistants during the years. The coaching staff and players we have today are DIFFERENT than in the past. ENJOY IT!!
Going back to the title of this thread, Are 'we' becoming 'them'. My first experience at the Big Hole was in the early 70's when I went with my dad. He bitched about the traffic and parking and how that stadium was half empty for many years. We lost that day on a controversial call; a 'no catch' in the end zone-Billy Joe Dupree, if I remember correctly. I went again in 1978, as a Sophomore at MSU. Loved the game 24-15 win by the Spartans, completely outplayed the Wolves. On the way out, I heard many Michigan 'fans' bitching and complaining about Bo and the program...one after the other. I finally said to one Blue Jackass, "You guys have been so successful for the last 10 years, and your bitching about the coach? We ought to be so lucky!" I swore I would never become like those people.
Reading posts from a couple of threads, I just hope, WE are not becoming THEM!!
