There were three (that I recall) different posts asking for advice on picking stocks. Then there was a post asking, What guitars do you or have you owned? Then I remember one asking, whether to buy or lease a Ford, and now I see one asking about Farmersonly.com. I am sure I am missing several others.
My view was, this is a place to talk about MSU sports, do we really need that distraction? After some reflection, I've changed, why not use the thousands of subscribers to get some helpful advice. As long as it is not done in excess, I'm cool with it. What's the harm with the occasional off topic seeking of advice? There is a lot of collective wisdom and experience here.
Do you like the off topic seeking of advice? I don't think there is a right or wrong answer to this question.
