Hiring of Harbaugh will be good for MSU....
If MSU was ever going to lose the chip on their shoulder it would have been if UM hired a coach who was simply a solid guy who the fanbase was not all gaga about. For example, I would have snatched up Dave Doreen. A John Bielien for football if you will. A coach who would not bring attention to himself or the program. Harbaugh can't help bring attention to himself whether he wants to or not
Hiring Harbaugh has the fans and the blue media who covers them at a all time high as far a hubris. That hubris is conatgious and the medial, local and national will be all over it.
I got several e-mails today pointing out how UM was going to sweep the state as far as recruiting and MSU was going to be back to getting the "scraps".
I pointed out in my response that 2015 was the first year in probably 20 years that MSU had a higher ranked class than. I also pointed out how the class that really got MSU rolling was the class Dantonio put together in his first 2 months with guys like Cousins, Foreman, Cunningham, Dell, Greg Jones, Rucker, etc...
According to Rivals.com MSU only signed 2 of the top 10 players in Michigan for 2015. MSU actually missed on as many in-state guys than they got! MSU offered Weber, Alabi, Cole and Kelly and missed on all of them, They had to settles for guys like Scott (Weber's spot), Williams (Alabi's spot), Stewart (Cole's spot) and David Dowell (Kelly's spot).
My point is that under Mark Dantonio it is not what other teams do or who they recruit, it is who MSU gets that count. History has shown that MSU evaluates as good as anyone in the nation.
BTW, any MSU fan sweating recruiting at this point just needs to think about this. At this time last year did you expect MSU was going to land, had offered or even heard about: Williams, Dowell x2, Listermann, Higby, Stewart, Martinez, Hunt, Butler, Davis, Miller or Alexander.
Did you think MSU would beat OSU for the top RB in Ohio that OSU wanted?
Did you think MSU would land a UM legacy recruit in Thompson?
Did you think MSU would land a QB from Arizona?
Did you think MSU would flip a UCLA commit on signing day?
BTW, I have a feeling the Green and White game will be a good day for MSU on the recruiting trail.
