I may sound like a broken record here, but so far no one has been able to refute the following chain of of logic. So, I will try one more time to get some clarity on this issue.

I pulled the follow statement from this website, which to the best of my knowledge is the most recent text of the NBA collective bargaining agreement. From Article X, Section 1:

"(b) A player shall be eligible for selection in the first NBA Draft with respect to which he has satisfied all applicable requirements of Section 1(b)(i) below:

(i) The player (A) is or will be at least nineteen (19) years of age during the calendar year in which the Draft is held, and (B) with respect to a player who is not an international player (defined below), at least one (1) NBA Season has elapsed since the player’s graduation from high school (or, if the player did not graduate from high school, since the graduation of the class with which the player would have graduated had he graduated from high school)"

I added the emphasis. (Note that there is a second requirement in Section 1(b)(ii), but in effect this is only that a player needs to officially declare for the draft.)

The bottom line is that a play needs to be BOTH
1) 19 years old during the calendar year of the draft AND
2) At least one year removed from high school graduation

Bates' birthday is January 28th, 2004. Therefore, based on the rules above, he is not eligible for the NBA Draft until 2023, whether he graduates in 2021 or 2022.

So, if the NBA does not chance the age limitation (NOT the one-and-done rule), Bates cannot enter the 2022 Draft whether he reclassifies or not. The consensus here is that Bates is likely to reclassify. If he does, my only logical conclusions is that Bates' options are

A) Play at MSU for 2 years
B) Play at MSU for 1 year and then play one year in the G-league or overseas
C) Play for 2 years in the G-League and/or overseas.

Bates has already stated that he does not want to play in the G-league nor overseas... so...

Based on all that we have learned today, Bates is very possibly going to spend 2 years at MSU... right? Absolutely no one else has mentioned this. So, please, point out the flaw in my logic. I feel like I am crazy here, but this is where the logic has taken me.
