I assume we will see some of the defensive changes that have been discussed over the summer. I'm not talking about the change from Narduzzi to Barnett because I'm guessing that we run our same defense. I'm referring to our pass defense and more specifically the play of the STAR backer. Is he playing run first or is he rerouting the WR to avoid a two way go on the safety by the slot? Are the safeties still reading the OG's pulling like they did against Baylor? I was there and I was shocked to see our safeties taking their first step in on 3rd and 15 situations. Our Safeties were obviously reading something and I'm guessing the Oline run blocking was confusing them.
The bottom line is for all the success we had last year, we played 3 very good offenses and in those games we gave up an average of 45+ points and over 500 yards passing. You aren't going to win many and we were fortunate to win one when you give up 45 points. We have to be able to play an Oregon like opponent and give up 31 or 35 in order to win it. We can't ask the offense to score 50 points at OSU this year.
Looking forward to watching the STAR and Safety spots on Friday night....
