Nicole Auerbach of The Athletic reported that there are changes coming to the NLI penalty.
"The NLI penalty is the loss of one season of competition in all sports and a required one year in residence at the next NLI institution. (This happens if your school does not grant a complete release from the NLI.)," according to Auerbach.
To put it plainly, student-athletes will no longer have to sit out a year after requesting a release from their NLI if there is a head coaching change or if the student-athlete wants out of the institution after just one semester.
