I was able to catch up with Venice High defensive coordinator Larry Shannon to talk about Chuck Brantley. Shannon indicated that Brantley is a special player with a off-the-charts football IQ and a tireless work ethic.
He feels like some teams were waiting to offer Brantley until spring football because of his weight. He also feels like Michigan State was smart to make Brantley a priority because he is a special football player.
Honestly, weight doesn't bother me a bit. Brantley is already a good tackler and he isn't afraid to stick his helmet in there and make plays against the run. It isn't going to be difficult to put 10-15 pounds on him, he has the ball skills that impossible to find.
