1) Our D did a fantastic job. Dline contained very well and got some pressure (even when it was 4-6), linebackers did very well (except for Harris in the pass game imo), and our DBs covered their tails off. They did not get beat once all night (I do not count when Arjen tripped). My question is, why didnt we rush six much more often? Our five DBs were doing a great job covering. Adams got through his progressions many times and had no where to go and he still had time to throw. Blitzing more, like we did vs UM, would have caused more sacks and bad throws from Adams. As great as our D played, I thought we could have been even more dominant. I am sure there is a very good reason why we did not blitz like this.
2) Offense. Why, in your opinion, did we do so few of these things: Runs to the outside, counter runs, play action, and multiple WR sets? They had, at minimum, 7 (and up to 9) in the box almost every play after we gashed them in the first series (they knew that had no chance of stopping it after that drive if they didnt cram the box). Runs to the outside and counters are ways to help pick up more yards running against a stacked box. their defense was also overly aggressive. Counters and play action would have done very well imo. The few times we ran play action, we did very well. For example the Price TD. The middle of the field was wide open. Should have called far more plays to the middle of the field. Multiple WR sets would also spread out cramming the box, of if they stayed in the box, we would have had big chunks much more often. That would also open up the running game. Heck, we ran for 200 yards anyway. Can you imagine if we would have done these things? And how many more points we would have scored? Shot ourselves in the foot too many times in the game imo. Play calling was average, at best, imo.
3) Why did we have such trouble getting off of blocks (besides the blatant holding)? Harris especially struggled with this. We usually anticipate those passes much better and tackle them for few yards or less. Maybe it was a schematic thing for this game? Was frustrating to watch.
4) Kick coverage. What is going on? Why are we taking such bad angles and not staying in our lanes? How can our punt unit not get to the returner and be waiting for him to catch the ball with the amount of hang time the ball was in the air? That thing was in the air for eternity. Gotta break down and not lunge as well.
What is great about this, is there are still many things to work on, and we can discuss them, yet we are top 5, just beat a top team, and should win every game until Nov 21st! (Hows that for a run-on sentence)
