Some here have been asking or lamenting as to why MSU is so tight lipped regarding injuries. I believe the primary reason relates to both student privacy and redshirt preservation. Student privacy is an issue of growing concern, but it can also be waived. Redshirt preservation is another thing all together. Consider this situation: Safety Matt Morrissey has taken a redshirt year already. He has now appeared in a few games this year as a redshirt frosh. (*** THIS IS HYPOTHETICAL) What if he is now injured, let’s say an ankle. Now what if MSU is on the records as stating, he is going to be fine, he is available to play this weekend… BUT, for whatever reason , he does not play in the next few weeks. Now he has appeared in the first three games, he got injured and if he does not appear the remainder of the season he will be eligible for a sixth year as a medical redshirt…. BUT, MSU made a statement that he was ready to go. Under these circumstances it is difficult for MSU to petition the NCAA for a sixth year as its own statement will be used against it. Therefore, I believe regardless of the injury, MSU has adopted a policy of just be Sargent Schultz, Just say NOTHING
