Hearns had great, great, great power for a Welterweight when he was young and at 147. His chin was suspect, but no one knew it at the time and most 147s couldn't take advantage because they couldn't get anywhere close to Hearns' chin.
Hearns was a master boxer (other than keeping his left too low). He could go circus-trainer on guys at 147 (including Leonard, against whom Hearns won 20 of 26 rounds).
So, could slick in-and-out Mayweather have gotten inside to score vs Hearns while giving up all that reach? Hearns was freakishly but effectively thin at 6-1, 147 when he was young.
I think Hearns would have out-jabbed Mayweather and although Mayweather might have outscored him, Hearns' high right cross would have found a home more than a few times, and then we would have found out how great Mayweather really is.
Mayweather has had a weak schedule.
