Of Dantonio listing Monty Madaris as the No. 1 Z wide receiver, Dantonio pointed out that three WRs are listed as first-string players in the depth chart (for a total of 12 offensive "starters.)

"It remains to be seen if he would be the guy if two wide receivers are in there," Dantonio said.

But Madaris is on an upswing.

"He had an outstanding fall camp," Dantonio said. "He got into the top six last year. He has great speed, great ball awareness. He is a big-body guy. He catches the ball down the field very well.

"(I) just felt like his performance in bowl practice, he would be the guy that would move into that position."

Madaris is ahead of second-string DeAnthony Arnett at the Z, with Trey Kilgore No. 3.

The other starting WRs are Aaron Burbridge ahead of AJ Troup at the X-wide receiver and RJ Shelton ahead of Matt Macksood at the F-wide receiver.
