I'm a bit concerned that we have not stepped up our defense so far this year. I was looking at the defensive stats provided online by BSPN and I gleaned some of the following highlights. After you read through them I will ask your take on why they are what they are.
After the First 5 Games
Overall Team Defense Rank 16
Scoring Defense Rank 77 allow 377 yd/game, 248.8 passing, 128.0 rushing, 20.8 points/game
Passing Defense Rank 82 allow 10 TD, 7.9 yard/attempt (not per completion)
Rushing Defense Rank 45 allow 183.6 yards/game, 10 TD, 4.5 yards/attempt

My takeaways: EMU was ranked 3rd in Team Defense, Tackles

Did Narduzzi make this large of a difference? It seems to me that we have more experience (because of red shirts) than most teams we play. This year we have an inordinate amount of injuries, true. But doesn't this sound some warning bells in your head? Shouldn't we be shooting for top 20 rankings, year in, year out?

Do we have an emotional leader like Pat Narduzzi on our defensive coaching staff? Or is this idea overblown?

I'd like to know your take on this. So many of you are extremely knowlegeable and intelligent on this issue. I'd like to know your thinking. Thanks for reading.
