I think this is where things are headed among Spartan fans, but, there are obvious problems with this strict expectation.
Here is the problem: MSU could go 11-1 (only losing to an undefeated Ohio State team on the road on November 21) and be voted the 5th best team in the Nation, as various conferences and teams use back room politics to reward other one loss teams and conferences. We saw that happen in 2014 and a repeat would not be unexpected. Some here might label this an "unsuccessful" season.
You are then defining a successful regular season as an undefeated season, because... The only way I see MSU getting into the playoffs with 1 loss is to beat a highly ranked Ohio State team. I just don't see the committee taking two Big Ten teams. They may not even take one.
Ohio State, with only one loss, almost missed the cut last season.
So, if the only way the 2015 MSU football team can be "successful" in your view is to be included in the 4 team playoff, MSU must beat Ohio State in Columbus and, if they lost another game, convince a group of VIPs, some of whom are hostile to MSU and/or the Big Ten, that they should be included over other one loss teams.
Is that fair to the team? If MSU goes 11-1 this season, but, fails to make the 4 team playoff, they will have been successful in my view. I would love to read a logical and supported argument to the contrary (sarcasm intended). That committee doesn't define success for me. Does it for you?
