Not to be paranoid, but I really hope MSU doesn't overlook the season opener against Western. I know, I know, we should (almost certainly will) go in and do what Top 5-10 teams are supposed to do to MAC teams and Coach D won't allow a lapse in concentration and all that good stuff...but this is not a bad WMU squad. Quick breakdown...
However, if the Broncos can come out and hit a couple early through the air they might put up more crooked numbers than we are used to seeing against early season cupcakes.
I just can't wait any longer...I NEED SPARTAN FOOTBALL!
- The Intangibles - The game is on a Friday night, under the lights in Kalamazoo. You can BET PJ Fleck has had this game circled on his calendar since they limped off the Spartan Stadium turf two years back. There will be a lot of Green in that crowd, but the rest will be very fired up...and probably very drunk. Not often you host a top 10 in state team in your backyard for the season opener. Should make for quite an atmosphere.
- The Tangible - WMU has the offensive personnel to attack MSU. Their QB had a 26/10 TD/INT ratio and threw for around 3,500 yards a season ago, their top two WR's combined for over 2,500 yards and 20+ TD's and their RB was the Conference Player of the year as a TRUE FROSH last season! If they come out and throw some bombs early against our inexperienced secondary this one could be interesting.
