FYI, all those CBs for Etta to Michigan happened just as Jobe arrived on campus. Jobe is the best pure edge defender on the board IMO. If I'm Jordan, he's the guy I want. He is a legitimate top-ten nationally edge. He's just a great athlete and also very raw, given he has not played football that long. The kid returns kicks for goodness sake.
Looking at Jobe, he narrowed his list to eight schools including Alabama, Miami, Georgia, A&M, Vanderbilt, Baylor, Oklahoma, and MSU. Michigan really pushed for him, but did not make the top eight. Although their are rumors' he could stop by Ann Arbor at some point. I doubt it.
Let's pick apart the top eight. He just visited Alabama and Miami, both unofficially. He showed well at Alabama. But the Crimson Tide already have one top EDGE commitment (of only 4 total) and two others are very highly rated that are top targets of the staff. Not going to A&M in the big June period was surprising. A&M is only taking one edge after taking 2 top-ten EDGEs last year, and all their focus seems to be on Chandavian Bradley, who booked a visit to A&M and then made it an official visit the next day. Of the other schools, he has taken visits to Georgia, Baylor, and Vanderbilt. After all those early visits, he only set up two officials, MSU & Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt is next week. Based upon my analysis, I think the most likely landing spots for him are MSU, Miami, Vanderbilt, or Alabama. Alabama would likely play the waiting game. Miami is hard after him, so it would be interesting if he sets up an official for the fall. Michigan is a wild card, but all depends on if he visits. Oklahoma looked like the early leader, but Adepoju Adebawore and Derion Gullette are also very high on their board. Its seems to have cooled a bit there.
Given MSU was his 1st official, I think that means something. I like the fact that he is such a raw athlete and a high degree of explosiveness. No one knows how this all shakes out, but MSU has gotten its top targets so far. If they miss on Etta and on Thompson, it could be the plan all along that others are higher up on the board. One interesting tidbit on Jobe is he has a personal coach Sean Cooper, who will be with him on the trip. The relationship between Cooper and Jordan will no doubt be a key element in his recruitment. Given the relationship with MSU is newer, I would not expect any quick commitment. But the way this staff has gone about getting players I thought that would wait until fall, you never know.
