Evaluating, Recruiting, and Developing are all important in building a good program. I think without a doubt we have excelled at evaluating and developing over MD's tenure. Recruiting has been decent but has lagged behind the other two phases until recently. Now before you cry out in righteous disbelief and point to all the good players that have come through the program, let me explain what I mean by recruiting. Recruiting is being able to close on the players you have targeted. I would argue that MD has not been able to close on the players he wanted as often as schools like ND, OSU, and UM. For most of his tenure here he has lost head to head recruiting battles with those schools. He has by and large evaluated talent better in regards to the unheralded recruits that don't have big offers and he has developed talent better than those three schools. I know there are exceptions but I am talking in general terms and trends. So know it appears that MSU has turned a corner. We have exceeded the pull of ND and UM and have closed within hailing distance of OSU. Now in addition to evaluating better and developing better, we are recruiting better. I think the stage is set for even better things to come for MSU and the future is exceedingly bright.
