As many have heard, Hunter Rison stole the show. As I posted he talked the talk and walk the walk. Rico talked about his swagger, yet he was not cocky. It was simply a kid having fun and being confident in his abilities. If a kid made a nice play on him, Rison would be the first one to say something positive to him.
Donovan Peoples-Jones got the MVP and I personally did not see him show out as much as some others. What he was was perform extremely consistent and steady. He shoudl be a top 100 guy for next year.
As many know DPJ has strong UM ties. That did not stop MSU with Thompson, but this one might be more difficult simply from a depth chart standpoint. If MSU gets Corley to go with Layne and Chambers, I can see a kid like DPJ having no interest following that trio.
Now what MSU WILL need if they get those 3 in 2016 is a smaller/slot/speedster for 2017. That is where a guy or guys like Rison or Hamler make a TON of sense. Rison or Hamler would be an excellent complement to this guys. Jim mentioned McGarrett Kings and I think that is appropriate.
Hamler is just ridiculously quick and DB's were so afraid of his quickness they would simply play off coverage. When they did that he would simply run shorter out/slant patterns for catches. Jim noted that Pitt commitment Tony Butler had the unfortunate task of covering Hamler. Afterwards, he was asking who that kid was and he certainly did not want to have to deal with him on too many reps.
It was obvious that many HS Coaches/parents etc...DID NOT want their kids having to cover Rison or Hamler as it was simply an invitation to look bad.
Lost in this talk is Corley who was very solid all day long. Corley has added some quality size, especially in his upper-body and he looks very good physically. I was trying to think who Corley reminds me off and I realized he is kind of a combo. He is a smooth runner who comes out of his breaks without losing speed. In that way he reminded me of Mark Dell. On the other hand he is a bigger guy who can go deep and go up for the ball in that way he has some Devin Thomas in him. You can see why Corley is so sought after is because he is very complete, not a lot of weakness in his game.
BTW, another WR who performed well was Ruben Flowers of Ohio. He is a big-bodied WR who should some real nice body control on a few plays. If it was not such a stacked WR group he may have been getting MVP buzz.
Overall you have to like how MSU has positioned itself. They could land Corley and have assembled IMO not only the best WR class in MSU history based on rankings, but certainly one of best in nation for this year. Plus with Rison and Hamler they have 2017 kids that they offered before anyone else that have proven they are the real deal. Just another example of quality evaluation by the MSU staff.
Somebody did ask me if anyone of the guys there today was as good as CR coming out....In a word, no. That kid is a once every other decade type. What a waste.....Rogers and Percy Harvin two best WR prospects I have ever seen in all my years of camps.
