I noticed an oddity that may never occur again for a roster of Spartan quarterbacks, all four scholarship quarterbacks from the 2020 MSU roster may be the starters for different Division 1 schools this season.

Due to increased eligibility with the coronavirus season exception and medical redshirts being less restrictive, it appears this situation may become a reality.

Rocky Lombardi (Class of 2017) was a member of the Spartans from 2017-2020, after the 2020 season he transferred to Northern Illinois. Lombardi has been a granted a 7th season by the NCAA and will be the Huskies starting QB in 2023.

Theo Day (Class of 2018) came to Michigan State as a highly recruited player, but never reached expectations in his three years in East Lansing. He transferred to Northern Iowa (Division 1 FCS) in Spring of 2021 and has had a successful career with the Panthers. Only five returning FCS quarterbacks threw for more touchdowns (26) than Day did last season.

Payton Thorne (Class of 2019) surprisingly transferred to Auburn late this Spring after two seasons as the signal-caller at Michigan State. It has been reported Thorne will be the starter for the Tigers to begin the season.

Noah Kim (Class of 2020) is in a quarterback competition with Katin Houser (Class of 2022) and no one would be surprised if Kim starts the season for the Spartans against Central Michigan.

Rather unique circumstances, something for people to keep an eye out for as the season begins.
