OTHER MSU SPORTS Four Spartans Capture Titles in Final Weekend of Indoor Track & Field Regular Season

EAST LANSING, Mich. – In the final week of preparation before the Big Ten Indoor Track & Field Championship, Michigan State earned four event titles across three different meets.

On Friday, Feb. 21, MSU had athletes compete at the Silverston Invitational in Ann Arbor, Michigan, as well as the GVSU Tune-Up, in Allendale, Michigan. On Saturday, Feb. 22, a select group of Spartans competed at the Alex Wilson Invite in South Bend, Indiana.

Friday GVSU Tune-Up
The Spartans started the day right with a win in their first event of the day. Valadian Pallett finished first in the weight throw with a best throw of 20.19m, while Janan Khalil finished third with a personal best throw of 18.39m. Eriana Hubbard (17.59m) and Margaret Jones (17.59m), finished sixth and seventh, respectively.

Connor Williamson also finished first in the men's weight throw with a personal best 19.63m. Colby Morlock (19.35m) and Joshua DeVries (19.29m), finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Both Morlock and DeVries set new PRs on the day.

Michigan State captured yet another title when Jessica Stieb finish first in the shot put (15.89m). Rylan Finstrom was second with a throw of 14.78m. In the men's shot put, Dillon Morlock added to the Spartans' winners list with a PR (18.90m), while Brendan Vander Meer was third (16.27m).

Friday Silverston Invitational
In the men's 800m, Owen Gilbert ran a season best with a time of 1:52.74 to finish second. Levi Maier took fourth with a personal best, crossing the line in 1:55.59. Alex Yon finished second in the men's 600m with a time of 1:20.91.

Saturday Alex Wilson Invite
At the Alex Wilson Invite on Saturday at Notre Dame, the Spartan men's distance medley relay team improved on its season best with a time of 9:39.49. The team of Luke Perelli, Noah Sage, Tim Cherry and Riley Hough finished 11th in a very competitive field.

Patrick Byrnes was the final competitor for the Spartans running the mile. Byrnes finished ninth with a time of 4:12.33.

Michigan State now prepares for the Big Ten Indoor Championships Feb. 28-March 1 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
