With Ohio State face Michigan State Saturday, I spoke with Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith about Duffy Daugherty and MSU's plans to honor him and his pioneering 1960s teams that led college football integration.

Smith, while he was AD at Iowa State, helped launched what has evolved into a national trend in recent years. In 1997, Iowa State renamed its stadium, Jack Trice Stadium. About a dozen schools have honored such pioneers in recent years. MSU is finally joining that list.
