The rows are alternating colors (white and gray) to make them easier to read. If a thread you have opened gets a new post - it will be green. Once you go in and read new posts on a green thread - it will go back to white or gray - whatever alternating colors dictates. If you use the 'back' button on the browser like I do sometimes - the thread will obviously stay green.

The blue dot to the left of the thread means you have not looked at the thread.

Also nice that all of the pinned threads are gray.
