This columnist had numerous ups/downs with Harbaugh, but seem to understand each other now:

This is your traditional/professional beat writer:

There is certainly a convenience to piling on Harbaugh in the aftermath of yesterday's interview. Reality is that he's just a weird dude. The weekly coaches show with the morning sports guys on KNBR (Bay Area radio) was like listening to nails on a chalkboard. The weekly coaches show on the rock station 107.7, with morning knuckle-heads immediately after the KNBR segment, was actually quite entertaining and somewhat enlightening.

KNBR: hard-hitting questions, no answers, uncomfortable silence, same as you heard on the Cowherd segment; not too different than driving a car a the wall, backing up, putting in drive, driving car into a wall, ...
107.7: softball, off the wall questions (--> H's favorite Thanksgiving side dish? mom's cream of corn, where he spent 5+ minutes talking about the family's different traditions), but oftentimes quite enlightening as their humor/goofiness seemed to allow him to let his guard down

I personally don't see the hoopla in yesterday's interview, based on what I've heard from him over the years. He doesn't subscribe to protocols in dealing with the media. His football lineage is old school: his dad, Bo, Ditka, Buddy Ryan. He won't discuss his players, his gameplans, his views on rivals. He will ALWAYS give a vanilla answer and won't sell himself or his program. It is not received well by media members who have expectations, and him leaving the west coast, which is pretty far from the media spotlight, could be a tough transition for him (and for the east coast media elite who expect coaches to be backslappers)...
