This guys personality has changed over the years. He went from just mildly weird but friendly to looking like a mean, sometimes incoherent, squirrel with ADD. He is a great couch but before we wet our pants about great couches lets get serious. One of my favorite statements about being a college football coach came from George Perles whom I loved. I'm paraphrasing but it was something like if college football didn't exist most of us would end up as girls volleyball coaches. Sorry for being politically incorrect.
I miss guys like Perles and can't stand these scheming weasel types that hide behind what is "right". It isn't like we expect great coaches to come up with the double helix but we do expect them to lead in all that it means. Sometimes it comes with a boatload of ingratitude but you keep going. Sometimes it comes with worse like your integrity comes into question.
You try to do what is right, unpopular as that may be, In whatever form that takes. Sometimes it means you talk in cliches to protect individual players and avoid exposing their limitations in the media. You could say we lost 55 guys to the portal most of whom wouldn't have played but there is a hole. We have 20+ out on injury and more limited, which is way above the norm. We have had a couple horrific recruiting classes we inherited and have had no depth. We lost a bunch of contributing players to suspension with no immediate resolution on the horizon. But you don't say it. You just say something like we need to execute better.
Let's get real. It is worth $9.5 million just to not have Tucker kick him in the balls or the rest of the Detroit media.
Imagine the PR problems then. I would have already kicked and lost all that money.
