I would be very pleased to finish in the top 15. Last year only 38 of ESPN top 300 players came from the Big Ten footprint. A top 15 ranking will likely place us in the top 3 or 4 non-southern and non-California schools.
When you take a deep dive into the numbers you see that we have 1703 points now. Corley would be worth 172 points (135 +37 bonus points). Let's say we get Hill and another 5.8 4 star, we are looking at around another 290 points here. Let's say we add two more 5.7 recruits. These players are worth 90 points and because the new 2013 formula only counts your top 20 recruits, and it uses the point system and not the star system, Bache (45 points) and Allen (60 points) would not be factored in. They would be supplanted by the 90 point, 5.7 recruits. This would add another 75 points to our team ranking.
The total points for MSU should end up, conservatively in the low 2100's and optimistically, in the low 2200's. Let's take a look at last year's 13-16 schools.
13th - UCLA at 2315
14th Oklahoma at 2158
15th - Penn State at 2133
16th - Mississippi State at 2081
Don't get caught up in the hype about how we are a top 5 class, 15 of the 25 five stars, and 50 of the top 100 recruits have not committed yet.
Our avg star ranking is currently 3.35. This is exactly what we finished with last year. We are currently 17th by this metric. Even that Rivals uses the point system and not the star system for its class rankings, the average star ranking per recruit is a pretty good indication of where we will end up.
I am ecstatic with a top 15 finish. We are not in the talent hotbeds but we would finish ahead of many football power houses who are in the talent rich South. This would be two strong back to back classes. I just don't want anyone to be discouraged as they watch our ranking move down from 5th to about 15th over the next 8 months. The future is very bright. Dantonio is getting his guys!
