If the buzz is legit and no reason to doubt....I think a chance Dowell is better than Harris by the time the bowl game rolls around. I think very good chance he is better than 2016 Harris by the fall of 2017. It will be interesting to see if Dowell can turn into a Allen type of playmaker for MSU. Nobody made more big plays than Denicos.
So if Davis returns and you have Davis, Bullough, Reschke, Frey and Dowell, MSU could have best and deepest LB's corps in Big Ten. That is important when you consider that the DL "could" take a step back, thought MM could be best DL in Big Ten. I think the level of talent of DL will be determined on just how much guys like Sweat and Smith develop. Have to feel good about MM, Evans and Cooper. Jones is blue-collar solid. Quality play by Sweat and Smith would give the DL the depth and flexibility to stay near top of Big Ten
