According to Sheldon Krause of the Lansing State Journal, the Michigan State swim and dive program could return as soon as 2024.
A $200 million recreational center, which will include a recreational pool, was approved by the Board of Trustees in June. However, organizers are attempting to raise $20 million for pool expansion (to meet Division I competition requirements) and $6.5 million for operating costs by Oct. 1 when design plans needs to be submitted. Pledges for operating expenses have already met about $5.2 million.
Also of note, Mike Bottom, Michigan’s current swim and dive coach, is retiring in August. However, he said he is open to coaching MSU’s potential reinstated program if he is asked to do so.
