I wonder if we could design some defensive plays with Lawrence Thomas or someone else with experience playing Linebacker. Just play one of the quicker, faster DE's to the same side. I know it would be a crazy idea and it isnt anything we would play full time for obvious reasons ( ie 300 pound lb). Or we could play a 5-2-4 which could almost be the same thing. With Nicholson playing at 6'2 220 and others big and fast enough to play some positions most players that size cant play, we do almost the same thing. Im sure everyone expects us to play plenty plain vanila etc due to losing Nardo. So why not pull some surprises?
So why not come out in out some off the wall defenses. Who knows, it could well work to throw Oregon off its game.. At the very least it would give the Ducks something to worry about, instead of putting all the pressure on us.. Afterall the Ducks will have a new QB and probably expect us to come out with a very conservative defensive game. Just show a little of the opposite and put make the Ducks do some adjustments and sell how good they are at making in game adjustments.We have enough talent and depth to use a strategy like this.
