Doing recaps when MSU loses is no fun, but here you are:
The game was obviously lost in the final 10 minutes of the first half, and maybe even in the final 1:30. Hoggard had a steal which could have cut the lead to five points, but instead the ball was deflected, NU winds up hitting a three, and MSU never got closer than 10 points for the rest of the night.
Turnovers and giving up offensive rebounds were major issues in the first half, but those got better in the second half. MSU's defense, however, was pretty bad all night. NU shot 54% in both halves, got in the lane all night, and had WAY too many open threes. That is not good enough.
Then, Hall gives MSU literally nothing? Here is another fun stat, Jaden Akins' plus-minus on the night was a shocking -32 in 32 minutes. I am not sure how that it even possible for a guy that scored 13 points.
Next up is a game at Illinois. Cool, cool, cool.
Michigan State falls at Northwestern, 88-74
Substandard defense, turnovers, and a no-show from Malik Hall breaks MSU's five-game win streak in 88-74 loss at NU.
