BALTIMORE, Md. - News of Josh King's commitment to Michigan State traveled fast here at the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge, with a pair of interesting observers taking note.
Soon after learning of King's commitment to Michigan State, Spartan wide receiver recruiting target Donnie Corley informed one of his close friends.
"Yeah, Donnie came and told me about it," said Penn State commitment and Detroit King teammate Lavert Hill. "But that's all he said. We didn't really talk about it like that."
Corley and Hill are among the 100-plus players participating in the annual Five-Star Challenge this weekend. They checked in at the event on Friday and will hit the field on Saturday.
Corley is listing Michigan State, Ohio State and Tennessee among his leaders, with Auburn, Georgia, LSU and Florida State getting involved.
Hill, a four-star recruit ranked No. 167 in the nation and No. 4 in Michigan, visited Michigan State in May.
"Right now, I am 100 percent committed to Penn State," said Hill, who didn't rule out more visits in the future.
King announced his decision back home at Hinsdale (Ill.) Central High School at 10 a.m., Central time.
King - a four-star defensive end who is ranked the No. 1 player in Illinois - selected Michigan State over Penn State, Notre Dame and Michigan on Friday.
Corley - a four-star recruit ranked No. 79 in the nation and No. 2 in Michigan - lists the Spartans among his favorites, along with Ohio State, Tennessee, LSU, Auburn and Georgia. Hearing about King's decision made Corley reflect on his own status.
"It will probably make me speed up the process, you know, because a lot of guys committed so you're probably like, 'I've got to check this out,'" Corley said. "I will probably talk to him (King) once or twice about it."
King is Michigan State's 14th commitment. Michigan State is listed No. 7 in the Rivals.com team recruiting rankings.
The Spartans are hoping to get a commitment from four-star defensive end Auston Robertson of Fort Wayne, Ind., on Sunday.
"I'm trying to get a chance to talk to some of the guys on why they committed, what made them commit and get a little more scoop on Michigan State," Corley said.
