I thought I would share this little story that my dad (MSU--'73) Sent me last night. Not a huge thing but I found it touching and felt some people here may like it too. My first memories with my dad were going to Spartan football games and even though he is retired and lives in Utah he watches every single one of the MSU BB and FB games.
Here is the story:
Last weekend Diane and I were in the mountains fishing (I fish, she talks to the kids running around and shows them pictures of Alaska on her i-pad). While catching rainbows I met a 12 year old boy who was catching rainbow with his four brothers and sisters using grasshoppers. It was obvious to me the kids have had a rough life, especially since I had met their alcoholic (probably) father. The boy whose name is Aden saw the black Rose Bowl 2014 hat I was wearing (that you gave me) and told me how much he liked college football and especially Michigan state. Just before we left about 7:00 pm I put the hat on his head and told him he could keep it. Twice he asked me if he could really keep it and as Diane and I drove away in the truck he came to the drivers side window and with tears in his eyes thanked me again for the dirty worn MSU Rosebowl hat as if it was the best thing he owned. What a perfect place for that hat to be!
As much as I love MSU football and Basketball, MSU is a great university and in the end its about people. As an example MSU is the world leader in "Bean Genetics" and has many varieties of high bred beans growing in countries world wide. Those beans have feed millions of third world kids.
