I wake up and apparently my thread about Warner and Cook was taken down. Like many of us, I was more relieved than ecstatic at the conclusion of the game. The good guys barely hung on, and with our fantastic line play on both sides of the ball, it shouldn't have been that close. Oregon was the team with all the momentum in the 4th Quarter, and given our bitter experience last year against them, home-field advantage and with so much emphasis on finishing (and I'm not even mentioning the overall theme of "Aiming Higher"), I was very disappointed with Warner's playacting throughout. He was, as usual in these big games, trying to get too cute with new formations/themes that rarely seem to work (i.e. wildcat with Terry -hmmm...think they hadn't thought of that? or that stupid off-center alignment, or the attacking a fast Oregon perimeter D who sees bubble screens all day long in practice).
And Connor, by his own admission,Cook said he watched Oregon's final TD drive "pissed at myself," for missing WR R.J. Shelton on a third-and-three pass attempt. Cook threw low, but the ball was catchable. But Cook volunteered to take the blame. "The last couple of drives we had were unacceptable," Cook said. "The way our defense pressured (Oregon QB) Vernon Adams, the way we stopped the run. Thank God for our defense."
So yes, I should've put some text in the body of it, or clarified that my frustration was more 80% Warner and 20% Connor, but the stupid Rivals site wouldn't let me back on there and it was late, so I enjoyed the win with my GF. But I still say, "Aim Higher" and our OC bugs the heck out of me in big games. And Connor is going to have to finish better (see above).
But yes, an essential win, and a lot of heroes, to be sure. Hope all of our injured guys (Keiler, Copeland) recover quickly. And Montae, give up the Deion routine and tackle better.
GO GREEN! Love you Mark Dantonio!
