So he has become a fan of their program. He was in my office this morning saying "Harbaugh really needs to win one of MSU or OSU." I just looked at him and said "Not going to happen." He just kept reiterating, "But he needs to win one." To which I just replied, "Not. Going. To Happen." Then he said Harbaugh would get them to 8-4, at which point I pulled up their schedule and asked him to show me where the 8 wins were going to come from. He then said, "Yeah, 8-4 would be a great year for them."
The distance between UM and MSU/OSU right now is cavernous. I do believe Harbaugh will make them a much more sound football team right away, but they are facing exactly what MD was facing when he came in: a total lack of depth and average talent overall. Honestly, the offensive talent at MSU in 2007 is FAR beyond what Michigan will have at its disposal this fall.
Michigan could really have used 4 patsies to start the year. Instead they have three very losable games in Utah, Oregon State, and BYU. UM's margin for error in September is razor thin. I do think they'll get a lot better over the course of the year, but they could really start off behind the 8-ball if they aren't ready early.
