1. 31 years ago yesterday, Jack Morris pitched a no hitter against the White Sox in Chicago. I have attached a link to the call by Ernie Harwell. Hearing Ernie made me feel like a little kid, again. I had the privilege of having a one on one lunch with him in 1994. The nicest gentlemen I ever met. I peppered him for 2 hours with every question I could think of. He told me that calling Morris' no hitter was one of his career highlights. I remember watching the game and laughing when Morris fell down delivering a pitch just before sealing the victory.
2. Devon Travis has moved to the leadoff position for the Blue Jays and is currently leading the American League in RBIs. He is batting .375. I think he will be a future star and a strong candidate for Rookie of the Year.
3. In addition to Travis, other former Tigers are exploding across Major League Baseball. Prince Fielder is batting over .400 in Texas. Max Scherzer and Doug Fister are off to great starts in Washington. Rick Porcello has been solid for Boston. Avisail Garcia is batting cleanup for the White Sox and broke the Tigers 20 inning shutout streak yesterday. Jhonny Peralta is off to a fast start for the Cardinals. Austin Jackson is doing very well for the Mariners. I think this helps the Tigers make future deals.
4. The current Tigers are off to their hottest start since 1984. The Tigers have only committed 2 errors in the first 10 games. Is this the best Tiger team since 2006 and their best chance at a World Championship? Obviously, a lot will depend on the health of the team. It will be interesting to see what the Tigers do with Joe Nathan, when he comes off the disabled list in the near future. Joakim Soria has seemingly locked down the closer role.
