I've never seen more flags thrown than through the first two weeks of this season. My brother just mentioned that if just a few flags are thrown in tonight's game, it will be an all time record for the number of penalties in a week of NFL football. The Houston game took damn near 4 hours yesterday. Horrible.
One penalty they need to do away with is when a defender jumps in the neutral zone and the offensive lineman immediately moves to draw the penalty. Back in the day (5 or 10 years ago?), the offensive linemen couldn't move prior to the snap regardless of where the defensive linemen were. It was only a penalty on the D if the player didn't get back prior the snap of the ball. Today, I'd argue 80% of the neutral zone infractions are due to the offensive linemen taking advantage of the rule. That's BS and slows down the game. Hell, last night, a defender didn't even come close to the neutral zone and the refs still needed to throw a flag.
I'm sure there are a lot of changes that could be made, but the bottom line is something needs to be done. The quality of the game is suffering big time.
