Part II, Bryant myths 1980 Time story with 5,100 words reflecting on his career. Not a single word about the 1970 USC-Alabama game. Nothing on Cunningham.

How can this be? As I've said myth made up and spread in 1990s to aggrandize USC’s role & obfuscate Bryant dragging feet until 1971. And Time wasn’t alone. 1991 documentary on Bear made in Alabama doesn't have single word about USC or Cunningham. Sports Illustrated writer Frank Deford wrote a 7,100-word piece on Bryant in 1981 with one sentence about Cunningham. And it wasn't celebrating the game as a turning point. He was condemning Bryant for waiting until the 1970s.

First part of my story (link below) is about Bryant's deceptive 1980 quote in Time while at Kentucky he used to "recommended all these really great Black players to schools up North."

There's a fictional tale about Bryant and Duffy Daugherty and Charlie Thornhill and Joe Namath, but that's it. There are no stories about second player -- let alone "all these really great Black players ... " No matter how much Bryant's apologists try to defend the Namath story, there is no second player to back up his claim. Media flaw. Time wrote it so everybody followed and repeated without checking.
