Starting in his post Penn State game interview (and possibly again in his PSU post game press conference), Tucker said this:
“For our program, it’s a chance to win 11 games for only the sixth time in school history."
He has since repeated it over and over and over since then.
Every time he says it, I can't help but find it off-putting, because to me it underlines that MSU as a historical program, has not been elite. While this may be true, why go out of you way to point it out? Why not point out the times recently that MSU has won 11 games and had national-level success? Or why not just point out how hard it is IN GENERAL to win 11 games, and support it with facts about how rare it is for any BIG team to do so?
In any case, here is my question for the board:
In your opinion, why do you think that CMT believes it's so important to continually mention it to the press?
1) He wants to make sure everyone knows that what he and his coaching staff (and team?) have done this year is special?
2) He wants to motivate his team to be fully engaged to win that 11th game to put their "footprints in the sand"?
3) Other possible reason?
(@jim comparoni I'm sure you've heard him say it at least half a dozen times. Would love to know your take as well. TIA.)
