I have been going to a lot of college football games this fall (Non-MSU)
I saw Israel Abanikanda go for 300+ and 6 TD's against Va Tech.
I watched Roman Henby slice up NW for 179 and 3 TD's
I looked up the Rivals rankings of these guys and laughed. (5.6./5.4)I also wondered what would of happened if the committed to a "name" school. Henby goes to UM and he is rated 4-stars by signing day.
I also have watched guys on TV like Deuce Vaughn (5.5) and Chase Brown (5.4) rip teams apart.
I looked back at MSU and realized:
Kenneth Waker....Low Rated
LeVeon Bell....Low Rated
Jeremy Langford...Low Rated
LJ Scott...High Rated
Edwin Baker...High Rated
Good Ole Rivals even had Javon Ringer as a 3-star....SMH.
I remember some on here all excited about Jordan Simmons. Many were sweating his recruitment out and predicting if he came here he would be a star. I guess they did not watch the film. Simmons is a guy who if untouched he took it to the house in HS, but he did not break ankles or run over people.
Many wanted MSU to go after Lew Nichols, even I was intrigued. Nichols is averaging 2-yards less per carry this year than ast and will be luck to break 900 after going for 1800 1 year ago. I guess that is what happens when you lose 2 First Team OL from roster.
BTW, I have always been biased toward guys who can make you miss and jump cut like Riki-Tiki-Tavi. You can always add size, but you can't teach elusiveness. These kids who are a "man-child" in HS often find life is a lot tougher at the next level (See Kevin Grady).
Give me a highlight film like K-Mart or heck Mike Hart. I do not need the tank who runs over people or the guy who simply outruns people.
BTW, I hope Jarek Broussard returns to MSU. I actually think he can be legit. Give him the full off-season at MSU in the weightroom and training table. I like his ability, he just needs to learn to pay the position the right way. BTW, Jeremy Langford went through the same thing.
