I have re-done my metrics based on feedback from this board. My site ohiospartan is a ranking based on offers site, and it contains all my data. Part of my new metrics to determine 5 star schools, 4 star schools, etc is now based on 3 years of data for each year. So the 2016 5 star schools are based on the last 3 years of the AP poll, and the last 3 years of the avg Rivals star ranking. I then combined the two metrics to get a list of the top 70 schools used for the 2016 rankings. Anyway, looking at the raw data of where each school ended up based on this method yielded some interesting results. My biggest takeaways are:
1. Michigan was the only school that the final AP ranking was much worse than each years final Rivals recruit ranking. Poor coaching or Ricals bias? You be the judge. Me, I think the coaching turnover really hurt them.
2. OSU is really consistent at the top except for the 1 year of coaching turmoil
3. Wisconsin is also very consistent in the middle
4. Every metric shows that MSU is on a steep, steep improvement trend.
Here is the data:
