EAST LANSING, Mich. - This week, the Tokyo Olympics begin with four former Michigan State Spartans taking part. Shay Colley (women's basketball, Canada), Tori Franklin (track & field, United States), Franklin Gomez (wrestling, Puerto Rico) and Draymond Green (men's basketball, United States) will represent their respective countries.
The 2020 Olympic Games will take place from July 23-August 8, 2021, in Tokyo, Japan, exactly one year and one day after it was originally scheduled.
Michigan State is not the only Big Ten school to have athletes represented. The Big Ten will field a sizeable contingent of athletes, coaches and administrators, with a total of 185 Olympians representing all 14 member schools (164 athletes, including alternates, along with 21 coaches/staff). The Big Ten will have 22 returning U.S. Olympians, including 11 medalists. It will also have 44 first-time Olympians on the 2020 roster.
