So, if MSU finishes 11-1 or 10-2 and barely misses the playoffs and they are a "failure" and Michigan finishes 8-4 and they are a huge "success," all because of the pre-season expectations of so-called experts?
I hate expectations because these are the bizarre results you get when performance falls short of unrealistic expectations. Do I hope MSU will win the National Championship? Absolutely. Am I disappointed every time MSU loses a football game? Yes. However, I don't consider MSU a "failure" to meet my expectations.
Jamie Samuelson and analysts like him are setting MSU up for failure. If MSU makes the playoffs, they just met expectations, according to them. However, making the playoffs is subjective and up to the opinion of a committee with regional biases and interests.
MSU's stated goal is to win the Big Ten Championship. Everything else is merely the opinion of others.
