Spartan Track & Field Opens Action at Big Ten Indoor Championships Friday​

EAST LANSING, Mich. – After weeks of preparation, Michigan State track & field will travel to Indianapolis, Indiana for the Big Ten Championships, Feb. 28- March 1 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

This is the second time this season that the Spartans have competed at the Indiana State Fairgrounds after taking part in the Crossroads of America Invitational Jan. 24-25.

Day one action will begin with the women's pentathlon 60m hurdle trials at 10:10 a.m. followed by the men's heptathlon 60m at 10:20 a.m.

The first day of action will end with the men's and women's distance medley relays. The men will open the DMR action at 8:20 p.m. with the women ending the night at 8:45 p.m.

Last year, the Spartan women won the distance medley relay title with a school-record time of 11:12.91. The team of Kate Stewart-Barnett, Shae Harbaugh, Abbey Carvey and Lauren Freeland were the relay team that helped the Spartans earn the victory. Last season, the men's distance medley relay team of Andrew Nolan, Tee Muex, Timothy Cherry and Owen Huard finished fifth in 9:46.39.

The bulk of the first day of action will be trials for the running events. In the field events, the men's and women's long jump, men's and women's weight throw, men's and women's pole vault and men's and women's weight throw will all be contested.

MSU record holder Elle Adrian will be in action in the weight throw on Friday. The Spartan record holder in the shot put, Jessica Stieb, will compete on Saturday.

On the final day of action on March 1, the heptathlon and pentathlon will conclude along with all the running finals. In the field events, men's and women's high jump, men's and women's triple jump and men's and women's shot put will all be in action. The championship will end with the men's and women's 4x400m relays.

Freshman standout Rachel Forsyth will be in action on Friday in the women's DMR. The MSU school record holder will also compete in the 3000m on Saturday.
