MSU welcomes Xavier on Friday and West Virginia on Sunday.

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State women's tennis hosts its spring home opener with dual action play, facing off against Xavier on Friday, Jan. 24 and West Virginia on Sunday, Jan. 26 at the MSU Indoor Tennis Center. Admission to the matches is free.

The Spartans and Musketeers square off on Friday at 5 p.m., while MSU and WVU battle on Sunday at 10 a.m. Xavier and West Virginia meet on Saturday at 12 p.m.

The Green & White returns from the Pacific Northwest after a strenuous weekend in a pair of hard-fought battles against Gonzaga and Washington State.

Senior Liisa Vehvilainen, junior Matilde Morais and freshman Ellie Blackford were all able to earn points in singles play, but the team was unable to secure matches.

Looking forward, the Spartans hope to bounce-back and attain wins after a trialing first weekend.

Series History vs. Xavier
This is not the first time this season that the Spartans battle against the Xavier Musketeers, with the two teams meeting several times during fall tournament play.

Over the past 10 seasons, Xavier and Michigan State have met eight times during the spring season, with the Spartans holding a record of 7-1. The Green & White look to uphold their fierce competition with the Musketeers, with their match on Jan. 24 serving as their home opener.

A Glance At Xavier
Xavier opened their season in Lubbock, Texas with matches against Abilene Christian and Texas Tech. The Musketeers were unable to compete in their contest against Abilene Christian on Saturday, Jan. 18 due to weather conditions, then dropped their first match against Texas Tech on Jan. 19 in a sweep of 0-7.

Series History vs. West Virginia
While Spartan women's tennis has had frequent matches against their first opponent, the Green & White face the West Virginia Mountaineers for the first time since the 2021-22 season, being only their second meeting in twenty seasons.

A Glance At West Virginia
West Virginia opened their spring season with a homestand double-header against Duquesne and Morgan State. It was a close battle between the Mountaineers and the Duquesne Dukes, with West Virginia narrowly securing a win 4-3. Later in the day, WVU completed a sweep against Morgan State, going 7-0 in singles and doubles play.
